Pakutia Jomidar Bari – Tangail

Its another brand new day and we are at the edge of the Tangail district (টাঙ্গাইল জেলা) right now. We have reached here through the Manikganj (মানিকগঞ্জ). It is Pakutia Jomidar Bari (পাকুটিয়া জমিদার বাড়ী) that resides under the administration of Nagorpur of Tangail district (নাগরপুর, টাঙ্গাইল জেলা). This Jomidar Bari (জমিদার বাড়ী) complex comprises of three main buildings. Out of these three, one is much larger compare to other twos. The larger one is using as a Degree college these days and also the college authority holds the ownership of other two edifices as well. But they have rented that to other organization.

Initially the Jomidari (জমিদারি) was established by the hand of Ramkrishna Shaha Mondol (রামকৃষ্ণ সাহা মন্ডল) at the early of 19th century. He has two sons named Radha Gobinda (রাধা গোবিন্দ) and Brindaban Chandra (বৃন্দাবন চন্দ্র). Radha Gobinda (রাধা গোবিন্দ) didn’t have any children but Brindaban Chandra (বৃন্দাবন চন্দ্র) had three. They are Brojendro Mohon (ব্রজেন্দ্র মোহন), Upendra Mohon (উপেন্দ্র মোহন) and Jogendra Mohon (যোগেন্দ্র মোহন). Childless Radha Gobinda (রাধা গোবিন্দ) adopted the second son of his brother and later gave his whole property to him. I believe that’s why his building was the largest among the three.

Currently using as a Degree college.

These three brothers later built three separate buildings for them and it was 1915 (almost 100 years from now). Each of the buildings are having extreme artwork & design, stylish columns, and small statues. Each inches of the building is having a delicate design that impresses everyone even these days. Atop of the building is having a lovely sculpture type architecture that is rich in design, concept, and taste (more if I consider the building period) in this modern days. Apart from these, there are several large ponds located at the backyard of the building.

This Jomidar (জমিদার) family was friendly towards the villagers. They have established a school during 1916 named as Brindaban Chandra Radha Gobinda School (বৃন্দাবন চন্দ্র রাধা গোবিন্দ স্কুল) [in short B.C.R.G. School] for their father and uncle. They have left this country during the 1947 separation (probably). Later at 1967 the government established B.C.R.G degree college on these buildings to commemorate the friendly Jomidar (জমিদার) family.

Apart from the Jomidar Bari, the premise now has a temple which probably used by the families who lived here. Also there is a open theater available that was used to arranged the local play or drama known as Jatra/Pala (যাত্রা/পালা).

How to Go:

Though this is located inside the Tangail district (টাঙ্গাইল জেলা), but it will be easier for you if you go there through the Saturia (সাটুরিয়া). You can get the bus of Saturia (সাটুরিয়া) from Gabtoli Bas Terminal (গাবতলী বাস টার্মিনাল). The bus fare is 60 Taka per person. It will take around 90-120 minutes to reach at Saturia (সাটুরিয়া).

From Saturia (সাটুরিয়া), it will be a 30 minutes of CNG vehicle ride. You have to pay 30 Taka per person for this ride. The GPS Coordinate of these gorgeous looking edifices is (24° 1’14.50″N, 89°59’19.67″E).

Stylish design over the walls and edges.

Things to Ponder:

Baliati Jomidar Bari will fall on your way after the Saturia (সাটুরিয়া). So you can also visit that mammoth mansion. That one is much larger and greater than this one.
