Toidu para is a village located in Khagrachari district. The village is named after the Toidu jhiri (water stream). This water stream has two wonderful waterfalls. One is popular and known as Toudichhori waterfall. The other one doesn’t have a name but locally probably known as Kasing waterfall in Tripura language. This is the upper waterfall of the twos. This could also be known as Second Toiduchhori waterfall. After enjoying the lower Toiduchhori waterfall and crossing an adventurous path, finally we reached the upper waterfall of the Toiduchhori.
According to our event plan, this waterfall wasn’t on our initial list. In fact I wasn’t aware about the existence of this waterfall. While perusing several articles on the internet, I found few people traveled here. So before leaving Dhaka, I just picked the name from our list.
The height of Upper Toiduchhori waterfall is slightly taller than the previous one. But to my judgement, the previous one was more attractive than this one. Water from this waterfall just falls over a ‘stair like’ place beneath the waterfall and splashes all around. It was after 4:00pm in the afternoon when we were wandering around the waterfall. That’s why we didn’t spend much time around it.
While returning to the Toidu Para from the Upper Toiduchhori waterfall, we took a different route. This one is much simpler and quicker too. Possibly after a trekking of 1.5 hours, we reached the Toidu Para. By that time we had already emptied all our water bottles. So we collected water from the village and soothed our thirst.
After saying goodbye to the villagers along with Polen and Monobikash, we started walking again. Sky was getting darker, not for the afternoon. It was for the advent rain. It was a heavy rain with large drops. The whole road became muddy and slippery. As I wear glasses, it was really hard for me to see through the wet glasses. I was feeling much better without my glasses that time. Also the visibility was very low due to heavy rain. It was fun walking over such an empty village with no one around. It was beautiful too, but we couldn’t take the photos because of the rain.
As it was almost near to the sunset, and because of the heavy persistent rain, all the people were inside the house. Even after crossing the Chappa Para, we have to walk further until we have reached the road where local transports are running. Using one of those we returned back to the Dighinala town. It was 6:45pm when we reached our hotels. The continuum rain kept falling for another few hours. Removing wet cold clothes, and sitting inside the hotel room wearing warm clothes was giving us a heavenly feeling. It was just awesome work by four frantic people when we look back on what we have just done.
How to go
To visit this Toiduchhori waterfall, please do not take any guide from the Dighinala. You don’t need this. At best you can take any local who will drop you near the Toidu Para, or at the Chappa Para village. From the Toidu para hire local people. Tribal people are arduous, fast responders and know the hills better than anyone else. It would be around 100/150 Taka per person (as of 2012). Just express your desire to those people, and they would do the rest by their own responsibility. It would be 6-7 hours of trekking for going and returning. This trail between the two waterfalls is extremely dangerous during the rainy season. If you want to avoid risk, do it in winter.
Tips
1) It is possible to visit both the waterfalls on the same day. But it’s quite hard for irregular trekkers. For those you can visit the two waterfalls in two days. Each of the waterfalls has a separate route.
a) From Toidu Para it’s 1.5 hours walking distance to the Upper Toiduchhori waterfall. This path is easy to handle.
b) From Toudi Para it’s around 2.5-3 hours of walking to reach the Lower Toiduchhori waterfall. This path is slightly difficult.
It is possible to move from lower one to upper one easily. But it’s slightly difficult to move from the upper one to the lower falls. So if you plan to visit both the falls on the same day, then visit the lower one first. I mean the (b) first, then climb to the upper one. And return back using path (a). Choice is yours. But always have a safe journey.
