Jhaudia Shahi Mosque (also Jhaudiya Mosque) is an old mosque that is located in Kushtia district of Bangladesh. It is unknown about when the mosque was built. But the structure of the mosque which gives it similarity with other known mosques from Bangladesh gives a hint that it would be more than 250 years old. Although the mosque had gone through several renovations and lost most of its antiquity. This is mainly a rectangular shaped mosque having a dimension approximately 16m x 6m. The mosque has a three dome atop and has three entrances from the eastern side. Read more about the mosque from Banglapedia.
This was the second day of my Kushtia tour. In the early morning I started my journey to find this pre-mughal mosque which is located in Jhaudia union of Kushtia. I have taken a bus from Chourhash mor of Kushtia town to go there. The bus was for Kushtia to Haushpur and I bought a ticket for 20 Taka to go till the stoppage at Jhaudia.
After around a 50 minutes of bus journey I reached the Jhaudia bus stoppage. From there I had to hire a three wheeler van that would take me to this Jhaudia Shahi Mosque. This was just 5 Taka van fare from that bus stoppage. This was another lovely mosque. I love to explore the old architectures, and historical edifices, and this one was what I was expecting.
Local people believe that this Jhaudia mosque was built by God. The reason behind this is, there is no information about the builder of the mosque. No data about who and when it was built. To guide the people, scholar people kept a signboard near the mosque that says “No mosques were built by Allah, all were made by humans, even the most holiest mosque Mecca.”
