Pohela Boishakh Mela in Dhamrai

Pohela Boishakh Mela Dhamrai

Dhamrai is around 45 kilometers apart from Dhaka city. This is under the Dhaka district, and also just beside the Manikganj district. During every Pohela Boishakh the Doyel Shilpo Goshti (Doyel Cultural Group) uses to arrange a cultural fair (which is locally known as Boishakhi mela). This is one of the largest and well known Mela in Bangladesh.

The Mela was held inside the premise of Hardinge High School (Dhamrai). This school was developed at 1914, almost a century old. If you want to enter the Mela, you have to enter through the school gate, and then the Mela gate. You won’t require any entry fee for this Pohela boishakh mela.

This fancy ride is known as Nagor Dola in Bangladesh.

The Mela runs for 5 days starting from the Pohela boishakh. I saw plenty of local crafts and other stuffs in mela for souvenir. It had a nagor dola for a ride. There was also a cultural program show going on, performed by the local stars. I was enjoying the show, but it was almost 7:00pm, and I had to return back to Dhaka.
