After visiting the Zinda pir mosque our next destination was the Nine Dome Mosque which is located at the Western bank of the great Khan Jahan Ali dighi (খান জাহান আলী দীঘি). We have reached there by having a short walk. The road was covered with dense trees and hardly any sunlight on there. And even more the sky got darker quickly and we were experiencing few drops from the sky as well.
This Nine dome mosque is locally known as Noy Gombuz Mosjid which is a literal translation of the English name. The mosque is having almost a square shape (16.45m x 16.15m). The walls of the mosque are thicker. Unlike any other mosques nearby, this one is having total nine domes at the top. The domes are arranged in three rows where each row contains three domes, hence total nine. It is totally unsure about the builder of the mosque. But from the architecture and the history it is understandable that the mosque is contemporary of the 15th century.
How to go:
It is just a few minutes of walking distance towards the west from the Khan Jahan Ali Mazar. GPS coordinate of the mosque is (22°39’30.61″N, 89°45’19.83″E).
Where to stay:
Bagerhat (বাগেরহাট) is very near from the Khulna (খুলনা) town. Around 40 minutes of drive at maximum. And Khulna (খুলনা) is a divisional district. It has several international standard hotels along with plenty of cheap hotels. You can check in those for your night staying. I have stayed at the Royal International Hotel, an old and famous hotel from Khulna. And I always go for the old but famous hotels. The reason is, they are always classy, and everyone knows about location. Just ask anyone from Khulna (খুলনা) about this hotel from anywhere around there :-).
It was the day-2 of our four days trip at Southern Bangladesh. We have traveled Barisal (বরিশাল), Jhalokathi (ঝালকাঠি), Pirojpur (পিরোজপুর), Bagerhat (বাগেরহাট), and Khulna (খুলনা) in those days.
