There is a wonderful beach located in county wicklow. Most of the time the beach is less crowded, but on a supper sunny weekend this beach could get packed with plenty of people. Name of the beach is Brittas Bay. This approximately 5 kilometer dune is full of brown powdery sands. Behind the beach is the typical highland terrain of Ireland. This is a wonderful location to go for a full day outing, especially with kids.
We drove from Dublin on a sunny Saturday after lunch. The beach has a very large car park where we put our car. So far I remember it was a 4 Euro fee for parking the car. The other car park is at the north side of the beach and also big enough. Usually during the sunny weekend both the car parks get filled by lunch time. To avoid any rush better go there in the morning, or after lunch time (when people are leaving and you could put your vehicle there). Beside the car park it has a place where you could wash your feet once you return from the beach.
The beach is a few minutes of walking from the car park. The path towards the beach is through the white sands. If you are walking over those loose sands then you are accumulating a small quantity of sands inside your shoes. Interestingly the beach was slightly empty on that day. It could be we were at the later part of the day, or because of September. But the weather was very bright and sunny, and not that much warm.
Brittas Bay Beach is a blue flagged beach from Ireland. This beach is well guarded for safety measures. We usually do not bathe on the beach as the water is much colder compared to other countries (despite Summer). We also do not sunbathe, in fact we try to avoid any sort of burning from the sun. So we started walking towards the south end of the Beach. It was during the low tide. A lot of colourful stones were laying on the beach. We collected a few, although we knew that the colour would fade away once the water dries up. After spending a couple of hours on the beach we returned back from there.
Beside the beach it has several caravan car park spots. If anyone is planning to bring their mobile home or caravan then Brittas Bay Beach is a nice place to do so. Also there are several B&B available around, but requires an advance booking (especially during the summer).
