Chengi is a very shallow and small river that flows beside the Khagrachhari town. Although unsure, the river originated from the hills of Khagrachhari. But it is certain that the river falls into the Mahalchhari lake, which then falls into the Kaptai lake. Approximate length of this river 100 kilometer.
This river is everywhere in Khagrachhari district. No matter where you are going, the river Chengi is following you. It is noticeably a small river, having very shallow depth, one can cross the river by walking easily. Although the river is very narrow and shallow, the current of the river is very strong. If you simply drop a straw or any other crumbs into the water, you could easily find how fast that thing just washed away.
Chengi river carries a lot of dry leaves from trees and grasses along with muds. That’s why the river water doesn’t look attractive. But the main attraction is how it is flowing through the mountains. If you observe the river from the top of a hill, it would appear as a giant snake around hills. The river has numerous twists and turns. In the past this narrow and shallow river was a good medium for faster communication. But in current days people have other alternatives for faster transportation.
