The Christian Cemetery is located in the Older part of Dhaka, more precisely is in Wari. This is just beside the Salahuddin Specialized Hospital, Wari. Also it’s just one minute walking distance from Baldha Garden. This place is not open for public visiting. Only if you have relatives are buried inside the cemetery then you are allowed to enter.
As a part of my Old Dhaka expedition, I went to the Dhaka Christian Cemetery recently. I don’t know exactly how old this cemetery is. But I’ve found several graves inside the cemetery which are around 300-400 years of old. It could happen the cemetery was established around the establishment of the Dhaka city.
As I mentioned already they do not allow outsiders to enter inside the cemetery premise, but after our humbled request and our interest about cemetery they allowed us to enter inside. If they guy didn’t allow us to enter we couldn’t do anything but leave the place.
I love to visit cemetery as the place uses to be very quiet. When you enter inside the cemetery you’d feel peace from your heart. Hundreds of our beloved people are buried here. I always try to read the notes those are written at grave. People wrote the words from their heart. Also you’d feel mournful when you find a grave where a son wrote about his mother (lets say in 1867), and later just beside the grave you’d find another grave where the son itself sleeping since his death. It’s an inexorable fate, you can’t avoid it. Everyone must die someday.
If you notice the Christian Cemetery in Wari, you can easily distinguish two different types of architecture of the graves. One part is older one, the holy cross or the pillar beside the grave has baroque style, just like the Greek or roman style. These are older graves, around 300-400 years of old. Other part of the graves are newly build. Most of those are looks like our modern building structure. No fancy design or something like that. Only plain white painted.

I had been to this cemetery twice. The first time I went during my visit to Baldah Garden opposite to the cemetery. My second visit was at the time one of my collegiate Mr. Jack D' Cruze 's funeral who was laid to rest here in peace. I remember his one word he expressed his wish to be laid here no matter wherever he lives. It is very surprising that God has fulfilled his last wishes. He was about to fly for States after a long weekend here with his family but his last breath was the day his scheduled to fly. Finally he has been laid to rest in this cemetery for ever. May Allah bless him in a heavenly place.
This is one of my most favorite places in Dhaka. I'm glad that there's someone out there who's intrigued by this very place as much as I am!
