Kalikhola Jomidar Bari – Madaripur

Kalikhola Jomidar Bari - Madaripur

Kalikhola Jomidar Bari is located in Madaripur district. This place is currently functioning as a Land Survey Office of the Bangladesh government (locally known as Bhumi office). Few government employees use to work there. Also the old house is being used by the families of those employees. From my observation, this building is not that much older compared to other Jomidar Bari from Bangladesh. But still this place is worth a visit.

Initially the people from there were not interested to help me, and curious about my presence. But after a short talk with them they started to provide information about this house. And one of the employees guided me to explore the whole Jomidar Bari. Her help was really appreciable.

I hired a rickshaw to visit the Jhaudi Giri in the early morning. When I was returning from there, the rickshaw puller read my intention. I’m a traveler and came here to visit interesting places. So he suggested that I visit some old houses of Hindu people, and a Jomidar Bari. Initially I was reluctant to visit those places due to security issues, but the alternate road that he was using was beside one of those places.

The name of the house was Shaha Bari, owned by a Hindu merchant. The owner of the house left the house during the war 1971, against Pakistan. Before leaving the country somehow they were able to sell their properties. This Jomidar Bari was just a few minutes of walking distance from the Shaha Bari. That’s why I ended up visiting Kalikhola Jomidar Bari.

There are three temples (or moth) near the Jomidar Bari. Two of those were smaller in size and the other one was slightly larger. Those old temples were located by a small pond.

  1. Can anyone give more info about it too? I think I have also visited this place many many years ago. As far as I know it's call Shoshi Roi's Jamidar Bari!

  2. Any info about the kundu zamindars in panthapara of kalamridha?

  3. i don't have any information, but i have visited that place http://icwow.blogspot.com/2010/08/madaripur-jhaudi-giri.html

  4. Can you provide information about the village called Jhaudi where my maternal grandfather was a Jamindar (known locally as Boro Bhuia) and left for India around 1960s. His name was late Harischandra Guha.

    Goutom Bose

  5. I think it is possible by few ways.

    1) You can ask the elder people, especially who were at least around 20-25 years of old during 1971.

    2) That mansion is now currently using as "Record Office"(that keeps tracks of lands), so you can ask them.

Unfortunately I don't know much more. Also these processes are a bit tedious and time consuming.

  6. is it possible to know the history of the Jamindar badi?
