Kaptai Lake viewed from Chittagong

When we reached the Kaptai lake area, it was around 4:30pm. We hired a boat for half an hour of riding in the lake. The lake is around 200-300 ft depth on average (as people say but I hope it would be a maximum of 30 feet?). The water was so clean, and a bit greenish. The waves on water that are caused due to the heavy wind should make you scared. It’s a wide and vast open space for both water and air.

There is a place where people store bamboo which would be transferred to Karnafuli river. After the boat ride, we wanted to visit the Kaptai Bidyut Kendra (power plant), this place is controlled by the BRD (recent days BGB) and Army. It requires permission to visit the place. As we didn’t have any permission that’s why we couldn’t enter that restricted area. But if you have one, you can enter. So try it before going there. I heard from the people that the area was nice one.

We had nothing to do after as we weren’t able to enter the restricted area (was on our list). So we have enjoyed the beauty of Karnafuli river. The town was not that much developed one, but still was busy with plenty of local people.

These trucks are collecting the bamboos to transport to the other parts of the country.

Most charming part of this tour was the taxi cab riding through the hilly road beside the river Karnafuli. We have hired an Air Conditioned Taxi cab, and it cost us 1700 Taka (as of 2010) for a round trip (I was slightly sick and our team wanted it a relaxing one instead of stressful). Kaptai is 74 kilometers from Chittagong town and it takes around 2 hours to reach Kaptai. At the end of the day we’ve found our money’s worth.

The river Karnafuli near the Kaptai is also magnificent.
