Kishoreganj: Shah Mahmud Mosjid

Friday, 07 June 2013

Egarosindur(এগারোসিন্দুর) of Kishoreganj(কিশোরগঞ্জ) is a historical place from Bangladesh. Lot of fairy tales and stories are available along with those historical incidents. But apart from these things, the village has a marvelous ancient mosque named Shah Mahmud Mosjid(শাহ মাহমুদ মসজিদ). After a mouthwatering lunch at the Hotel Niribili(তোতা মিয়ার হোটেল) I came to the Goyalghat(গোয়ালঘাট) of Egaroshindor(এগারোসিন্দুর) village. It was a 10 minutes of Auto Rickshaw journey. The mosque was very near from there.

This is a square shaped mosque having each sides with a measurement of 5.79m. It doesn’t have any inscription but we believe that it was built during 1680 by a rich merchant named Sheikh Shah Mahmud(শেখ শাহ মাহমুদ). It was built over a slight higher platform which is bounded with a lower wall. There is a Do-Chala(দো-চালা) roof house is available at the eastern side of the mosque, and the entrance is passes through that house. A small pond is available at the eastern side of the mosque.

The mosque has a very large dome at the top. Four corners of the mosque are having octagonal columns and the middle of the walls are having eight small columns(each wall two). The Shah Mahmud mosque has stylish terracotta at the eastern wall. Also it has expensive(considering that period) decoration at the top of the walls, columns and mini-minarets.

How to Go:
