Mathurapur Deul is located in Madhukhali upazila of Faridpur district. Local people use to call this as Deul (I think it is a Moth or temple). This octagonal Deul is around 90 feet tall, and with highly ornate terracotta on the wall of it. The outer walls of the Deul is comprise with some small statue made from mud. According to the scholars this temple was built around 17th century. This is now declared as a protected edifice by the department of archaeology. There is a river flowing near the place named Chandana.
This Mathurapur Deul is one of the best places for visitors from the Faridpur district. I heard about this place when I was a student in high school. News came in a local newspaper regarding this place. Since that day I have been cherishing the desire to visit this Mathurapur deul. I was super excited before visiting this old historical place, and I was tremendously happy after visiting it.
Mathurapur Deul has a small gate at the front side which was locked. Also it was dark inside, so I couldn’t see. There were several village kids playing around the moth. After exploring the place I spent around 10 minutes playing with them. It was a wonderful experience.
How to Go:
If you are from Faridpur town then you could take a bus from the New Bus Stand of the town. There are several local bus services that run through Madhukhali. Also few buses of other districts like Magura and Jhenaidah use to leave from that bus stand. You could take those too. What you have to do is just leave the bus at Madhukhali Bazar. It would take you around 20 Taka for the trip and would cost you 40 minutes.
After reaching the Madhukhali bazar, take a rickshaw. I’d suggest you take a rickshaw for a round trip so that you could return using the same rickshaw after visiting the Mathurapur Deul. Otherwise it would be hard for you to find a rickshaw from that place. For round trip, and additional 10 minutes for visiting the Deul, it will cost 30 Taka (as of 2010).
