Brahmaputra river and the bridge from Mymensingh

Botanical garden mymensingh

The mighty river Brahmaputra entered into Bangladesh through the northern part of the country. Earlier the river was passing through the Jamalpur and Mymensingh district before falling into the Meghna river. During 1762 an 8.8 magnitude earthquake uplifted the tectonic plate of Madhupur tract of Bangladesh. Which forced the river to channel its flow through Jamalpur and Tangail district. That diverted river got the majority of the flow form the river, in current days which is known as Jamuna river. After the earthquake the main Brahmaputra river was left with a very little amount of water flow. In current days it seems like this main river is a branch of the diverted river.

There are a lot of bridges constructed over this Brahmaputra river in several districts to speed up the commute. Near the Mymensingh town you’d find two bridges. One is for the regular road transportation, and other one is only for railway service. From one bridge other one can be seen. We visited the river and the bridge during winter. It was a chilling weather with foggy condition in the early morning of the day.

Later we visited the river again while visiting the Botanical garden from the town. This river is flowing calmly beside the garden and added an extra value to the park. GPS coordinate of the bridge over the river is (24°44’56.03″N, 90°25’26.83″E).
