Narayanganj: Bondor Shahi Mosjid

Friday, 14 June 2013

Bondor Shahi mosque(বন্দর শাহী মসজিদ) is located at the Bondor(বন্দর) municipal area of Narayanganj(নারায়্নগঞ্জ) district. It was built during the 1482 AD by Baba Saleh(বাবা সালেহ). Its a square shaped mosque having four octagonal towers at the four corners. It has only a single hemispherical dome at the center of the mosque.

Similar to the other archaeological edifices from Bangladesh, the government is failed to take proper care and make local people concerned about this historical mosque. Now a days the mosque is occupied with newly built structures. Also, the local mosque committee has extended the mosque by adding an unplanned verandah at the eastern side so that it can accommodate more people.

But these kind of activities are strictly prohibited by the rules of Archaeological department. Nobody is following this rules. During my travel, I hardly found an inches around to take a snap of the mosque. From the second floor of a constructing building, I have found an ample amount of space to observe the Dome of the mosque closely.

I think its too late, the government can’t revert this mosque to it’s original state.
