Pathrail mosque is located in village Pathrail of Bhanga upazila of Faridpur district. People use to call this as Dighir Par Mosque as it is located beside Dighi. In the government’s record book this mosque is listed as Majlis Awlia Mosque. This mosque has ten small domes (five in two rows) on the top of it. This mosque was built anytime between the years 1393 to 1410. The pundits are assuming that the mosque was built by the great ruler, Sultan Azam Shah. It has a grave (of Majlis Awlia Khan) at the southern side of the mosque.
There is a majar located just near the mosque. The mazar was formed using the name of Mastan Darbesh Nazimuddin Dewan and Fakir Salimuddin Dewan. There is a large Dighi (water tank) located near the mosque. The Dighi was made to ease the water crisis of the peasants nearby. That’s why people call this Dighir Par Mosque. This mosque was in ruin in the past. The department of archaeology renovated the mosque recently and declared it as a protected edifice.
I have already visited almost the whole of Faridpur in the last two days. At the end of the second day I decided to visit this ancient mosque from Pathrail of Bhanga upazila.
How to Go:
If you wish to visit Pathrail mosque then you would have two choices to pick. One is from Dhaka and another one from Faridpur. If you are from Dhaka then you have to come to Mawa Ferry Ghat. You could use bus services such as Elish from Gulisthan. Then cross the river Padma using a speed boat, launch, or ferry. After crossing the giant river, take any local bus that would take you to Pulia. It would take around 20-25 minutes to reach that bus stand.
If you are from Faridpur then take any local bus from the old bus stand, or you could take the bus from Madaripur. Ask the bus driver to drop you at Bhanga point. From there you have to take another local bus that would drop you at Pulia. It would be around 20 minutes from Bhanga to Pulia.
Once you are in Pulia Bazar Bus Stand you could take a three wheeler to reach Shimul Bazar. It would be around 8-10 Taka fare. From the Shimul bazar you have to go to Pathrail Mosque. It’s hard to get any three wheeler vehicle to take with you towards the mosque. So you could walk through the village path for 30 minutes, or you could wait until you find a van. I took a walk through the village path that was green and full of scenic beauty.
