Raja Ram Temple is located in Khalia of Tekerhat, Madaripur district. This is a two stored temple that’s why it is also known as Jora Bangla Temple. This Hindu temple was built in the 17th century by a rich man named Raja Ram Roy. In recent days the Bangladesh government has taken control of this and declared it as an archaeological heritage of the country.
Raja Ram Temple has quite a few terracotta works on the wall and the pillar. The experts say the images from the temple actually depict some portion of the Mahabharat and Ramayan. But I found it hard to decode the tales from the image. If anyone is an avid fan of archaeological heritage then they should visit this place.
How to go:
I started my expedition from Madaripur district with this historic Raja Ram Temple. If you are from Dhaka then Tekerhat would be before the Madaripur town. If you already are in Madaripur then it would be beside the Madaripur – Dhaka highway. Tekerhat is a landmark in Madaripur, which is under the Rajoir upazila.
From the bus stoppage it is only 5 Taka rickshaw fare. Also for your information, the temple is near the Peace Center of Khalia. If you find it hard to locate the temple then just ask local people nearby about the Old Temple around. They can give you directions. The GPS coordinate of Raja Ram Temple is (23°13’23.5″N, 90°00’15.7″E).
