Ramsagar dighi is the largest lake (water tank or pond) from Dinajpur district. This is located in the village named Tejpur which is around 8 kilometers south of Dinajpur town. People say this is the largest man made lake from Bangladesh, but it is wrong information. There are several other lakes available in the northern part of Bangladesh which are much bigger than this Ramsagar dighi.
This Ramsagar dighi was dug by the king Raja Ram Nath during 1750-1755 to resolve the water crisis of local people who were suffering from dearth. But nowadays this is a famous tourist destination from Dinajpur. Although there are very few activities the tourist could do, still people love to pay a visit here (specially during afternoon).
The dimension of the dighi is approximately 1 kilometer in length and 200 meter in width. The king spent approximately 30 thousands Bangladeshi Taka that time (which could be millions in current day).
How to go
You can take any auto rickshaw from Dinajpur town that would take you to the Ramsagar dighi. It would be a 30-40 minutes of ride. When you are there you could have a three wheeler van ride around the lake to explore it. If you walk slowly it would take you around 30 minutes to walk around the dighi. FYI, GPS Coordinate of the Ramsagar dighi is (25°33’17.90″N, 88°37’25.53″E).
What I did there
When I reached there it was afternoon. So I spent a while walking on one side of it. When it was about to sunset I spent around half an hour swimming and bathing in the Ramsagar dighi. It was a hot and humid day and the bathing helped a lot that day.
There were several flowering plants around the lake which were in bloom.
