Salmon leaping in river Glen

River Glen, Donegal, Ireland

River Glen is a river from county Donegal in Ireland. This river is originated from the mountain around Ardara, and then it meandered through before falling into the ocean near Teelin. The river widens near its mouth as the ocean brings water in during high tide.

River Glen has a nice little waterfall that is a popular place for watching salmon leaping. Locally the place is known as Salmons Leap as anglers used to catch salmon in past (I think only the license holders can do fishing here now). There is a large parking space located near this place.

The colour of the water from the river is yellowish or brown due to the presence of peat in it. As the water flows through the large rocks it created a nice little water cascade near the Salmons Leap. More or less every season it produces a noise, but after the heavy rain it is most noisy.

We encountered the place while having a drive around Donegal. It was nearly end of the day while we were there. That’s why we couldn’t stay there much longer. We have a plan to come back in summer during our Slieve League visit.
