River Madhumati from Faridpur

Madhumati river, faridpur

Madhumati is one of the most beautiful rivers from Bangladesh. The water color is nearly teal whereas most of the rivers are muddy colored. This river is generated from the mighty river Padma near Kushtia district. There this river is known as Gorai river. After flowing through several districts this river joins river Bhairab near Khulna and together flows as river Rupsha. During the rainy season Madhumati river gets full with plenty of water.

I hired a motorcycle to reach the village Satoir of Boalmari upazila. During the journey I reached a village called Noapara, and a few kilometers apart from the village, there was a river flowing beside the road, and it was this river Madhumati.

Other side of the river was part of Magura district. There was a small Kheya ghat that used to transport people from one bank to the other bank of the Madhumati. I didn’t see any heavy vehicles like trawlers and others passing through the river.

Everyday local people use to cross the river with a boat like this.

The main road beside the river was a bit higher than the usual bank of other rivers. The road took a turn near the place of the river. I found a small banyan tree there, and the rickshaw pullers were taking rest under the shadow of the tree. I believe a few decades from now the tree would be a giant one, and then people probably would start to call the place as Bot Toli Mor.

River Madhumati is one of the most beautiful rivers from Bangladesh.

When I was a kid I saw a bus ticket from my neighbourhood friend. He got that bus ticket once his relative came to Dhaka. The name of the bus service was Madhumati express. And later from my textbook I came to know that Madhumati was the name of a river. Since then I have had a desire to visit this river. And today I made it, fulfilling a childhood dream.
