After visiting the Madaripur district I was returning to Dhaka through the Mawa Ferry Ghat by crossing river Padma using a ferry. I have crossed this river many times using either speed boats or ferries. I have always wanted to watch the sunset over river Padma. But every time I was obstructed by either cloud, rain, or running out of time. Somehow this time I timed it well.
When I reached the Keurakandi Ferry Terminal it was approximately 6:00pm in the afternoon, and I knew during sunset our ferry would be around the middle of the river. I was feeling excited myself, and waited for the moment over the slow ferry like a hungry lion. Only worry was, a small cloud was threatening the western sky, but fortunately it didn’t block the sun.
During the sunset time the surrounding environment became so amazing that I was feeling as if I was in some unreal place. Every face from the people was colored with the golden glow from the downing sun. The golden ray of sun was reflecting in the river Padma‘s water. Not only me, but also the other people around the ferry were enjoying this natural beauty. It was the best sunset I’ve ever observed till date.
Sunset doesn’t last forever. After a short beautiful moment it was just gone but it left a feeling in mind for a while. The sky was still reddish in western sky. The water of the river Padma was calm. At the eastern side of the ferry the water and the sky was pristine bluish.
There were plenty of small boats in the river. Few of the boats were returning home after catching fish (or any other daily work). Few of the boats were going to start day’s work, especially those who work during night. People go fishing at night in river Padma. All those things were possible to observe from the ferry.
Ferry from Keurakandi Ferry Terminal to Mawa Terminal takes approximately 90 minutes or so. It moves at a slow pace. That is sometimes boring, especially during the middle of a hot summer day. But during the afternoon, especially during sunset it was probably the best. When the ferry reached Mawa it was already dark. I left the bus that I was traveling with. I bought a few sweets from the Mawa bazar and took another bus to return to Dhaka.
