Nagorpur Jomidar Bari (নাগরপুর জমিদার বাড়ী) is located at the Nagorpur Upazela (নাগরপুর উপজেলা) of Tangail district (টাঙ্গাইল জেলা). This place is located in an interesting area. It has river Dhaleswari (ধলেশ্বরী নদী) at the eastern side, and the River Jamuna (যমুনা নদী) at the western side. It is believed that there were a naval route between the Kolkata (কলকাতা) and Nagorpur (নাগরপুর) that time. Now the Jomidari (জমিদারী) system has vanished and it took that route along with that (may be).
The Jomidari of Nagorpur was established during the 19th century by the Jodunath Chowdhury (যদুনাথ চৌধুরী). It’s right now a massive complex which is known as Choudhury Bari (চৌধুরী বাড়ী) as well. They were very helpful towards the people of their area. One of the decedent from the family named Suresh Chandra Ray Choudhury (সুরেশ চন্দ্র রায় চৌধুরী) was the founder secretery of the famous club East Bengal from this Sub-continent.
Most of the buildings from the complex are in ruin, and few are in good condition. Using those good ones the government has established Nagorpur Mohila Degree College (নাগরপুর মহিলা ডিগ্রী কলেজ). Its women thing and initially We ere confused about entering inside. But got the courage as it was the Friday. There were a group kids (probably from a nearby orphanage) came to visit these old edifices as well and they have joined us cheerfully.
When we have entered inside the dilapidated section of the complex, we found a hideout for the bats. There were probably thousands of bats resting and started flying away after our presence. It created a sharp wind flow from the flapping of the wings of the bats. This moment lasted for more than five minutes. I was using the camera that was new to me, and I didn’t know much about it’s settings for low light. I was busy with my camera to find out a way, but couldn’t find the option and by that time all were gone. Tough luck…
How to Go:
There are several ways to come at Nagorpur (নাগরপুর) from Dhaka. You can take direct bus from Mohakhali that comes to Nagorpur. Another option can be come to Pakutia (পাকুটিয়া) first through the Saturia (সাটুরিয়া). You can get the bus of Saturia (সাটুরিয়া) from Gabtoli Bas Terminal (গাবতলী বাস টার্মিনাল). The bus fare is 60 Taka per person. It will take around 90-120 minutes to reach at Saturia (সাটুরিয়া). From there using CNG driven vehicle you can come to Pakutia (পাকুটিয়া). From Pakutia (পাকুটিয়া) you can take CNG driven vehicles to come at Nagorpur (নাগরপুর).
